Hardwood Floor Cleaning Tips From Materials Experts
People have heightened their sensitivity to cleanliness and sanitation due to the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus across the world, the United States and even here in the Las Vegas valley. As shortages of standard cleaning products continue, your friends here at InStyle Flooring and Designs is here to offer some tips and advice on cleaning those floors, without standard purchased cleansers from the store.
Many of the standard cleansers like bleach or disinfectant spray are too harsh for the delicate wood materials. Any cleanser that recommends leaving it wet on the surface could be detrimental to your wood floor surfaces. So how do you disinfect without destroying the floor boards or wood planks? We have two answers.
1. Damp Mop & Dry
Using a combination of distilled white vinegar (which is both natural and non-toxic) and water and applying it to the floors using a damp mop, rinsing and wringing frequently. Then follow this by drying using a dry, soft towel. Making this DIY hardwood floor cleaner will remove dirt and grime as well as kill bacteria and fungus.
1/2 cup Distilled White Vinegar
1 Gallon Water
*Warning: Incorrect use of vinegar and water on hardwood floors will damage your floors if used in the wrong concentration. Follow instructions explicitly and never fully “wet” planks and never leave standing water on your hardwood floors.
2. Steam Clean
Using a steam cleaner designed to clean hardwood floors or with a hardwood floor setting you can sanitize your floors using high temperature steam. No need to add any cleaning solutions or chemicals into your steamer. Prior to using steam to clean your floors you will want to fully read your hardwood steam cleaner instructions and ensure that your wood is sealed.
Keeping Your Floors Clean
Most bacteria and germs enter our homes on soles of our shoes and pet paws. To prevent most of this soil and sand from entering your home in the first place you remove shoes before entering and wipe pet paws after walks outside and by placing the proper mats by entryways.
